LAMP
Lutheran Association of Missionaries and Pilot's main goal is to take the light of Jesus Christ to remote areas of Canada. LAMP is a recognized service organization of the LCMS and was founded in 1970. LAMP serves over 5,000 indigenous people all over northern Canada. They accomplish this with three things. They are full time missionaries, volunteer missionaries, and local people.
LAMP exists to fulfill the Great Commission. They stive to provide spiritual witness and nurture. LAMP serves Northern Canada specifically because of 4 reasons. The first is that there has been a population increase but decline in local clergy and missionaries. Just like everywhere else in the world the population has increased the number of pastors has decreased. The second reason is Third world conditions exist. Basic services that we all take for granted are lacking and if they exist are poorly maintained. For example, in the community we are going to serve many people do not have running water. The third and 4th reason go together. Indigenous people have shorter life expectancies than the rest of Canada. This is shown by higher rates of suicide, diabetes, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, TB, and HIV. The leading cause of death for people 10-24 is suicide. The First Nation Tribes are hurting. Every day is a struggle and it’s clear that Jesus is needed. There are many opportunities to serve with LAMP.
LAMP is a special ministry that is fulfilling the Great commission in an amazing way. They are going out to people who need help and are sharing the eternal hope of Christ. If you would like to learn more about LAMP or if you would like to serve in the future, please let me know.
In Christ alone,
Aaron Finkel,DCE
